Who Knew?

There is a group of gentlemen who love Corvettes, so much so that they have pushed the envelope of design. Hell, they ripped it completely apart. They have taken a bone stock C6 and tweaked it, modified it, stripped it all down, and then started all over again. There is a man, named Jason Hunkler who decided to open a tuner shop in West Palm Beach Florida, dedicated to all things Corvettes. His mantra that represents his work is, Perfection……Refined, and the name of the company is called

 Supervettes.

Shut the Front Door!!

Jason took his ideas, and love for design, body kits, and learned how to reshape your standard C6. He didn’t just simply come up with making a side-skirt, and a wing for the C6. No, he created an extremely evil looking street machine. This beast of burden, and awesomeness is currently called the ZR6X.

Your standard C6 is about 72 inches wide, whereas the ZR6X is lingering around 76 inches wide. Rolling stock for a C6 are a set of 18 x 8.5in wheels in the front, and 19 x 10in wheels in the rear. The ZR6X has a set of 19 x 10.5in wheels in the front, and a massive 20 x 12in wide rollers in the rear, and all tucked up under that wide sexy ass that the C6 Corvette has been conveniently known for. The designing didn’t stop there, a wide body kit was created so as this Corvette would draw the most attention humanly possible. All the while what lies under the hood, is what most people in their foreign cars fear.

Under the hood of this monster is your standard LS Series motor, but with Frankenstein like qualities. The V8 engine in this car has been stroked, massaged, blue printed, reassembled, and then dyno tested. Their ZR6X is currently driving around the streets of West Palm Fl., pushing a scary 600hp. So what that roughly means is, the total hp achieved peaked out at around 750hp.

This street fighter of sorts prowls around looking for a challenge from anything, and or anyone. I can only imagine that there are only two types of street races this car comes across. The cowards that don’t even bother, or the racers that frequently find out what his tail lights look like at 165mph. Now you may think that this shop just slaps on a kit, and the puts in a super-charger, and calls it day right? Wrong! The power trip doesn’t stop there, they continued onto the exhaust, where the heads that turned to see what was coming, now remain turned to follow and see where it’s going. The exhaust from what I have found out can be tuned to what the owner wants to hear. So if you want a harsh, raspy, angry sounding exhaust, that scares the old ladies crossing the street, while you wait at the red light, all you need to do is ask.

So in closing, Jason and his team at Supervettes have seemed to capture the awesomeness that is rightfully due to the Corvette. His dreams of building a tuner shop so different, so amazingly fabulous, that no other tuner shop , could even come remotely close to his greatness, has achieved goals beyond measure.

So if you’re in Florida, and want your Corvette to become the monster that it was inherently supposed to be, look him up, and bring somebody’s nightmare to life.

In this installment, a very inventive, and somewhat bold looking Corvette will be the focus here. That Corvette being “The 1968 Mako Shark II”.

This Corvette was a re-model of sorts, where as the previous version that came about in 1967, was a little too ambitious in its design. As good as it did look, it just couldn’t function properly on the road, and with that, all that was needed was refinement.

So then came the birth of the Mako Shark II.

More Than A Mouthful.

The Mako Shark 2 was a marvelous looking vehicle that was extremely innovative for its time. Its high wheel arches, low sculpted front end, digital gauges, one piece removable roof, and tilt hood were some of the major goodies that came standard. Another feature that was completely new for the Corvette was an adjustable rear spoiler that was controlled by the driver. It kind of sounds like Chevy had made their own version of the Veyron in 1968. That’s just my opinion.

The Mako 2 like many of the great Corvettes, came with the classic 427 Big Block, when coupled with a stout 4 speed transmission enabled speeds close to 200mph!

Ensuring Greatness Is A Must.

When the Mako 2 was refined, redesigned, remodeled, and then finished, the designers didn’t fathom the ultimate possibilities with this car. Who knew that with the right motor and trans combos that this car would be setting records all across the map. Setting records at SCCA races, NHRA drag races, and then even moving on to the greatness of the Bonneville Salt Flats. This body style has transcended time, infatuated the minds of thousands, and has somehow still remained an Urban Legend of sports cars. Now there are designers, tuners, and builders out there that would say the Mako 1 was bit too out there for it to have been a practical sports car. With all the work, that went into making this car what it has become, even by present day standards, was nothing short of phenomenal. If you think about it, seriously, in 1967, the look of this car, and the features it came with were 50 years ahead of ANYTHING out there. Who knew radical thinking would ensure greatness for all to enjoy.

Round 1, Fight!

It’s been known that there’s a word out there that is used when it comes to talking

about cars. That word is Super. Yes, this word gets thrown around, like over-hand rights

in a bar fight. Well funny enough, when it comes to talking about cars

you might expect the same kind of banter, at least from a dedicated car nut.

Round 2. Read Your Opponent.

Now keeping the word Super in play here, we shift over to 3 strong players in the game

right now, who have been placed in a small battle so to speak.

The 2012 Nissan GTR, The 2011 Boss 502 Mustang,

& The 2011 Chevrolet Corvette.

These three were placed together in a comparo style battle on the world famous

Willow Springs Race Track, and driven by none other than

Randy Pobst. (Just to keep it fair.)

Round 3. Stick & Move!!

The basis of the comparison was primarily about power and price tag.

(We all know Bragging Rights is what’s really important here!)

500+hp “Supercars” for 5 figures. I know, it seems a little weird to hear

Corvette, and Supercar in the same paragraph, but if your a Corvette Guy,

WHO REALLY CARES!!! It’s a Corvette, for Pete’s sake.

The Corvettes of recent years have been straight monstrous animals, that have been put

up against some world’s finest automobiles, and is still making great strides in

proving itself to everyone.

Round 4. Roll With Punches.

This 2011 Corvette was handed over to the Tech Guys at GM, who then found a way to

control all of the power that kept insisting on laying rubber wherever it drove.

Ford managed to pump out more power in their Mustang, and Nissan shoved so much

tech into the GTR, it would give Ferrari Italia a run for its money. Seriously.

A Quick Synopsis of the 2013 Corvette.

What’s Next?

GM recently let the world know about its 2013 Corvette model, and the significance about it. 2013 will mark 60 years that the Corvette name has been a staple in the minds of Hard Core Chevy drivers all over the world. Well at least in the United States.

(I mean that’s where it really counts, right?)

Along with this astounding benchmark, the C6 model will be retired to the ranks of some of its great predecessors. Monikers such as Sting Ray, Mako, ZR1, and C5 will be joined by yet another great model of the Corvette.

Gearing Up For The Occasion.

Now, normally the first new model off of a Corvette line is a hard-top, but this 2013 Vette is going to run the lines of a “Collector’s” convertible spec.

It will be like every man’s wildest fantasy girl. Wide in the hips, extremely attractive lines, a great set of shoes, and always topless!!

This particular model is going to be made with heritage in mind. It will come equipped with a 427 Big Block, which has been common place of all the Corvette convertibles. Now this 2013 Corvette has been mated with a 7.0-liter LS7, that’s boasting an insane 505hp, and 470 ft-lb of torque. I know it just sounds crazy, but being that it’s a Corvette, it works. The exterior will be up to the buyer for the most part. I mean you can go with a standard Pearl-White with an Anthracite Grey Racing Stripes, or Cobalt Blue, or just go with a Black on Black theme. It really wouldn’t matter due to the fact that you’re going to be flying past people at Mach 1 anyway!

 Rollin’ With The Best of Them.

So let’s wrap this up, shall we? We all know that there’s no such thing as a slow Corvette, unless it’s on the back of a flatbed, right?

Well this one is fast, if not faster than some of its fellow competition. A stiff 3.8 seconds to 60mph, and an 11 second quarter mile will be what the Ferrari 458 Italia, and the Porsche GTS 3 RS Turbo will need to look out for in this model when it hits the streets. And last but definitely not least, the first production model of the 2013 60^th Anniversary Collector’s Edition Corvette will be auctioned off at the world famous, Barrett Jackson Auto Auction in Scottsdale Arizona.

The 2013 Corvette will be a desirable, sexy, powerful, and exquisite machine for all those who dare to own it. When the time comes for its release into the driving world, try to be some of the first people on line to get one.

What’s going on everybody? We’re back again with another Corvette installment for you to enjoy. In this edition we’re going to mull over a few things as far as cars are concerned.

Speed. Performance. Power. Style, you know, the important things.

So lets start with a comparison of sorts shall we?

There are quite a few manufacturers of high speed, extremely sexy, over powered, street missiles out there in the world, and they’re all vying to be top dog.

Now there’s Ferraris, Lambos, Jags, and Astins, that hail from the European sector, and Nissans, and Toyotas that come from Japan, but what does America have to offer?

A Viper perhaps? Maybe even a GT40? No, no. We’re not here for that folks, not at all.

This battle has been reserved for the Corvette, and not the average Corvette either.

The 2011 Corvette ZR1. The most expensive Corvette known to date. Oops, I’m sorry, I meant “The Supercharged, Corvette ZR1”.

THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL

The 2011 Corvette ZR1 has officially been dubbed the most expensive “Production” Corvette due to its eye brow raising price of 124,000+ dollars. Yes, I said ONE HUNDRED, and Twenty Four Thousand dollars. Now before you get up in arms about the price, you need to consider something real quick. This ZR1 has been built to compete with some of the world’s fastest production vehicles known to man right now.

Here’s an example, the Ferrari 458 Italia, weighs slightly less than the ZR1. Zero to sixty times are within milliseconds of each other. Quarter mile times seem to float back and forth depending on the who the driver is. Now, here’s the kicker. The ZR1 is going to run you $124 grand with the full spec options available. The Italia runs a mere $220k, almost twice as much as the ZR1, and let’s not forget about the plastic & glue that surrounds the engine bay, that catches fire at random. True fact! Ask James May, he knows first hand.

So basically your choice is either a sexy American Red Head, or a Smoking Hot Italian.

(Pun intended! LOL!!)

POWER FORWARD

Here’s something to consider for all of you car guys out there, did you know that the Corvette C6 power plant is so awesome that it does something not many other vehicles could ever really pull off? The C6 can go from 0 to 160 in 5^th gear! Now think about this for a second.

What other high performance car can start a 160mph run from a standing start in 5^th gear?

Seriously. Now the boys over at GM have taken that same motor, added more fuel, shoved in a ton of air, and made the ZR1 a true animal. The ZR1boasts a jaw dropping 640hp engine that has been mated with a solid 6spd transmission, that enables the 605ft-lb of torque to lay rubber wherever the driver wants. In short ladies & gentlemen, this car, this street fighter of sorts deserves all the praise I’m giving, and then some.

So if you find one of these fabulous cars on Ebay or Edmund’s, and CAN afford it, get one, and then see how it feels to fly down the road in yet another American Classic.

Climbing Experience Not Needed.

This is a look at the New 2012 Cherokee. The Jeep name has been a staple in the SUV world for over 50 years and this year’s model has stepped up to an entirely new level of greatness. With a new creative list of goodies, this Cherokee has made a great imprint on the roads of America. To begin the 2012 Cherokee is sharing a frame platform with the latest M Class Mercedes Benz, but its power is strictly American. The recent separation of Daimler & Chrysler has assured us, that there will be no Mercedes Power in this Cherokee or any thereafter.  The Jeep Cherokee will come with new and improved high tech climbing features, not normally accompanied with any newly delivered Jeep. But before we go into the motor, and the extras, we have to discuss the interior, and its world class luxury feel. The leather wrapped interior, wood grain finish, and aluminum trimmed gauges are a welcome sight for any driver, male or female. The adjustable, heated seats always seem to convince you not to leave the driver’s seat. But when you do have to leave the comfortable and sturdy seats to load or unload your cargo, the power rear door always reminds you of the ultimate driver’s seat waiting for you behind the steering wheel.  Did I mention the one button, powered rear door? Ladies, your shopping experiences have just gotten a whole lot better. As you drive, the dual panoramic roof will keep the kids in constant awe, day or night. Especially, with the new reclining rear seats. Your back seat has now become your child’s personal planetarium.

Moving on to the power that this SUV has inherited. The New Cherokee is equipped with fully adjustable Air-Ride suspension, standard Satellite Radio, optional Navigation,  Traction Control, and all being transported by either a well managed 280hp V6 or beefy 360hp HEMI V8.  This sounds like a strong challenge to the 2010 Land Rover Discovery.  That’s just my opinion. Now both are smooth idling engines that produce the power you want, when you want. This year’s model even comes with a Tip-tronic style shifter! You know the shifter in an automatic drive car that you can move from side to side in order to change gears? Yeah that one. This Cherokee can now handle the highways with the best of them. And yes, I speak from experience on this matter. I was lucky enough to get my hands on a top of the line model from Enterprise about 3 weeks ago. Thanks for holding me down John, and the one I had my hands on came with a remote starter. Sweet!! Do you know how Classy it was to have that option available to me? I do miss it though.

So let’s wrap it up shall we? This is an awesome SUV to rent for a few days, and an even better one to own. Hell, it would really be great if you knew someone who has one, so you can play with theirs. Guaranteed Awesome Time!!! Ladies please, please, go and test drive this Cherokee. I mean a real test drive. Take the sales person on a quick trip to the supermarket, the mall, 5th Avenue. You know anywhere that would normally take two trips to pick up. Pick up about 4 or 6 bags of groceries, 4 bags of clothes from Macy’s, and if you can afford it, throw in Carrie Bradshaw’s closet of Manolo Blahniks. Trust me it’ll fit. Put the cargo space, and the powered rear door to good use. Seriously. Now pricing for this new Cherokee ranges from $31,000 to $43,000 dollars. That’s low end V6 trim to top end V8 4×4 pricing. It’s all good no matter which one you eventually decide to go after. But like I said before, go rent one and try it out that way. It will be money well spent.
